.XXX Domains - Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions
Why is my .XXX domain status "booked"?
A "booked" status means that we received your order, and it is waiting for a review by our security system. All orders are reviewed for fraud (Is a false name used? Can the address be verified?). Once the domain clears the review stage, the system approves it, and you'll be notified by email.
How are .XXX registrations allocated?
.XXX domains are registered on a first-come first-served basis.
Who can register a .XXX domain?
There are two types of registrants for .XXX domains:
Registrants who plan to use the domain as an actve site for adult entertainment purposes (ie: adult webmasters, performers, lawyers, agents, adult domain developers and investors, etc.), and registrants who want to block a site from resolving to a .XXX domain.
What's the difference between an active domain and a non-resolving domain?
Active .XXX domains point to websites with content for the adult entertainment community. Registrants with active sites must be members of the ICM Sponsored Community.
Non-resolving domains will not point to any website, and queries for these domains will return a default page explaining the domain's non-resolution status. Registrants who are not members of the Sponsored Community may apply on a first-come first-served basis to register a standard non-resolving .XXX domain corresponding to their personal names or other words in which they have a legitimate interest.
Can anyone block a .XXX domain from resolving?
Registrants may submit an order to register a standard non-resolving .XXX domain corresponding to their personal names or other words in which they have a legitimate interest. Blocks are allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Queries on these names will return a default page explaining the domain's non-resolution status.
How long does a block last for a .XXX domain?
The length of a block depends on during which registration period the block was purchased.
If you were allocated a block during Sunrise B, the block will last 10 years. At the end of the registration period, you can choose to renew the block or allow it to expire.
If you purchased your block during General Availability, the registration period is one year. At the end of the registration period, you can choose to renew the block or allow it to expire.
I ordered a non-resolving domain and ICM Registry asked me to apply for Sponsored Community ID. What does this mean and should I do it?
ICM Registry automatically contacts every registrant who does not currently have an account at ICM Registry. If you ordered a non-resolving domain name, you do not need to fill out this form, and can ignore the request. This process is only for those who wish to host a live .XXX site.
If I have a non-resolving .XXX domain, registered during General Availability, what will the blocked site look like?
A blocked, non-resolving .XXX domain will simply not show any content at all when typed into a browser's address bar.
Will my Whois Information on a non-resolving .XXX domain be private?
ICANN regulations require Whois information be entered for any registered domain. We automatically set the Whois information to your account information. If you would like to enter alternate contact information, please log in to your account, and click on "Whois" next to your domains in the list. From there you can modify the public data. Please note: we do not offer privacy for Whois information.
