About the .BZH new gTLD
The proposed top-level domain .bzh is one of several potential new cultural domain name endings. The .bzh TLD relates to the Breton language, spoken primarily in the Brittany area of northwest France and is directed at Breton entrepreneurs, artists, volunteers and Internet users.
Association .bzh, together with other European cultures, intends to promote the activities of residents of the Breton region with the use of the new ending. At the onset of the initiative .bzh formed a European network to strengthen the lobbying of new cultural and language extensions called European Cultural and Linguistic Internet Domains. These domains include other European cultures such as Britons, Galicians, Welsh, Basques, Scots and Catalans. This network enables the various organizations to pool efforts with regards to ICANN activities and to strengthen their presence in their dealings with the Internet community.
Association .bzh's Mission
The Association .bzh has as its main objectives, the purpose of promoting the .bzh domain name extension on the Internet with the intent of promoting Breton languages and cultures. The Association has four objectives:
- To promote the .bzh top-level domain and familiarize Internet users with the reasons for Brittany to have its own Internet extension dedicated to its language and culture.
- To work with ICANN in createing the .bzh top-level domain extension
- To assist in raising funding to present the demand to ICANN as candidature costs.
- To ask elected representatives to bring a clear support to the creation of the .bzh, including near the proper authorities.
