About the .LONDON new gTLD

Today, more than ever, London is deeply engaged with the globe. That's why the new top-level domain (new gTLD), .LONDON, is coming into existence, to allow a broader and more dedicated web presence for the incredible variety of people, businesses, and cultural institutions that call London home.

With nearly 8 million residents and a history stretching back almost 2,000 years, London has been one of the globe's great financial and commercial centers for centuries.

As one of the largest metropolitan areas in Europe, it represents approximately 30 percent of the UK economy, and 20 percent of Europe's largest companies are headquartered there.

Educationally, it features Imperial College, King's College, and University College, as well as the London School of Economics and dozens of smaller schools. The 2012 Olympic summer games will be the third for the city, making London the only city to host the games three times.

London joins several other major European cities applying for new gTLDs including Paris, Berlin and Rome.
