About the .MLS new gTLD

In the United States, the term 'MLS' is an abbreviation valued highly by professionals involved in the real estate field. MLS stands for Multiple Listing Service and represents an exceptional level of quality used to measure accurate, up-to-date property information used by certified realtors. Unfortunately, in some cases, the term is incorrectly used by a variety of loosely affiliated real estate organizations and websites and therefore does not properly reflect the standards set forth by real estate agents who have been MLS certified. In order to allow only accredited agents the ability to use the MLS name, The MLS Domains Association is accordingly applying for the right to use the .mls top-level domain name. Certified members will then be given the opportunity to claim a .mls TLD.

How MLS Members Can Claim a .mls TLD

Step 1: Join the MLS Domains Association as an MLS member. Only MLSs may join, and to be considered an MLS, an individual must meet the Association's eligibility requirements.

Step 2: Claim an address with the Association. Members make claims for their domain name(s) on a first-come, first-served basis. Once each month, the Association evaluates all claims according to Association policies and allocates the domains to member MLSs. A one-time $800 fee will be due for each domain name within fifteen days after the Association allocates it to a MLS.

Step 3: Register an addresses. After the Association has obtained approval (projected early 2012), an MLS-certified realtor will go to one of the independent third-party registrars to register a domain, paying the registrar the appropriate annual fees.
