About the .MOSCOW new gTLD

The top-level domains .moscow and .МОСКВА are intended to represent the Russian capital. The Internationalized Domain Name (IDN) TLD .МОСКВА can be translated as "Moscow" and the implementation of the two domains will enable the creation of web-sites with addresses like www.company.moscow and МУЗЕИ.МОСКВА; the latter of which can be translated as "museums.moscow"

Such websites will be associated with the Russian capital and they will help to strengthen the recognition of the city on the Internet. For example, the TLD .moscow could be used for websites about tourist information in Moscow, while the IDN TLD .МОСКВА might be a suitable place for web resources of the local government.

By applying for top-level domains Moscow will join some of the biggest cities of the world--London, New York, Paris, Berlin and others that also have plans to obtain their own TLDs.

The introduction of .moscow and .МОСКВА will require collaboration from the local government, companies and non-commercial organizations. Official proposal of the TLD's implementation has already been sent to the Moscow mayor's office and other governmental bodies as well. All terms and conditions and technical documentation for .moscow and .МОСКВА will be handled by a special council that will involve all concerned parties. This council will also prepare and send an application to ICANN.

The success of the TLD's implementation depends on the support of the Russian Internet community and Muscovites. The collection of signatures to advance the hopes of .moscow and .МОСКВА has been introduction and at the moment more than 10,000 signatures have been received.
