About the .USA new gTLD

Out of historical reasons .us domains where not publicly available until 2002 by which time .com had already created a secured millions of website addresses. Entering the market so late and lacking proper marketing the domain name .us faced an unfortunate fate as it was largely ignored by the general public. With no brand supporting beacon domains .us created almost no attention and awareness and remained unseen.

Hence the time is ripe for another TLD just for the United States: .usa. Easily recognizable and with just three characters very short, it is the ideal basis for any business or organization to showcase their efforts in the United States. Especially for city governments which will be granted their city name: boston.usa, for example, will be operated by Boston's city government and hence contribute to the branding of .usa.

Domain names utilizing the .usa extension will be open for use by anyone: businesses, individuals, organizations and of course for local governments. Ownership Distribution

Three quarters of the generated profits will be given back to communities in the United States. This will be accomplished by distributing 75% of the ownership to about 50 organizations representing business, culture, sport and education. These entities will not be required to invest in dotUSA and hence must dedicate their share of profits to philantrophic courses.

The remaining quarter of generated profits will be owned by the entities creating, managing and funding the project. This ownership distribution ensures a maximum of community participation.
