On June 13, 2012, ICANN made the list of applicants for new gTLDs publicly available. We are updating our pre-registration program to reflect ICANN's recent announcement. Customers can download the applicant list (pdf) and subscribe to our newsletter for the most up-to-date information on new gTLDs.

In 2013, the next stage in the Internet's revolution will begin: new top-level domains such as .sfo .berlin .nyc .web .eco .shop .gay .med .hotel .film .radio .green .site .secure .sport and .music are coming to the internet.

ICANN, the organization in charge of domain names, is planning on a dramatic rewriting of the rules for web addresses that could reduce the overwhelming importance of the .com domain. Under new ICANN rules, groups and organizations will able to apply for new Internet extensions (the part after the dot in a web address).

Today there are just a few generic top-level domains (gTLDs), for example: .com, .net, .org, .biz, and .info. But ICANN is planning to open the door to potentially thousand new generic domain extensions.

Pre-registering a new domain name is simple and easy. Once you set up a free account, simply search for names that you are interested in. Add those names to your cart and we’ll add them to a list in your account. There is nothing binding about pre-registrations, so you can change your mind and delete names from your account if you decide you’re no longer interested in them.

When we have full information about the new domains, including pricing and any eligibility requirements for registration, you will be notified by email. We’ll let you know the details, and you can decide at that point if you would like to go ahead with the registration or decline the offer. Once you’ve confirmed your interest in your pre-registered domains, we will attempt to register those domains at the earliest possible opportunity for you.

Because we don’t have all the details for each new gTLD, we can’t guarantee that we will definitely be able to register these domains on your behalf. But we do have experience running pre-registration programs. For the widely-anticipated launch of .XXX in 2011, our overall pre-registration to successful registration rate was 47%.
