Love is an emotion and an idea that rests at the pinnacle of humanity. Love (e.g., romantic, compassionate, spiritual, caring) encapsulates much that is good about human nature and global society. The Internet is a powerful tool that can be used to promote love generally and caring for others specifically. dot.Love Inc intends to apply to ICANN to serve as the dot-love (.love) registry to distribute .love as an Internet domain name.
.love holds the potential to generate substantial revenue through the sale of domain names to specific markets. Dot.Love Inc would use this revenue to provide - in a professional manner - philanthropic donations to non-profit organizations all over the world that care for others.
But there is also very real symbolic value in securing .love for a non-profit purpose.
The Internet also exists as an achievement at the pinnacle of humanity. To distribute .love as a purely commercial Internet exercise is an uninspiring statement on the human condition. dot.Love Inc offers an alternative to this possibility, as love is too precious to global society to be sold with such indifference. Utilising .love and the Internet as a strategy to care for others presents many challenges. .dotLove needs the support of others to achieve this goal.
dotLove Inc is a group of Internet, legal and managerial volunteers that seek to enable love at a collective level. They are a bridge between the virtual world and the real world to promote love globally and locally.
Project Phases
dotLove Inc., as an organisation and movement, will achieve maturity through three steps:
- Application phase: dotLove Inc. is currently working to prepare an application to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) so that the organization can distribute two domain names: .love and .luv
- Commercial phase: If ICANN approves the application dotLove Inc. will establish the ability to delegate .love and .luv domain names to the public. dotLove Inc. will generate income through this activity.
- Philanthropic phase: The income received from commercial activities will be donated to groups and organisations that share its vision by actively engaging in promoting love by caring for others. Essentially, dotLove aims to share its income with organizations that work to make the world a better place to live.
